The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its Thailand counterpart held a major digital economy conference in Bangkok on September 24, 2018, during which the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation on digital economy issues. The MOU largely reflects the digital economy principles spelled out in the Chamber’s
Global Digital Policy Declaration. The conference included a series of panel discussions on U.S. participation in Thailand’s digital economy; digital trade frameworks; SME empowerment in e-commerce; digital innovations in healthcare; blockchain technologies; and a special presentation on workforce development in the digital economy. The conference included U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Glyn Davies, and featured a keynote address by H.E. Sontirat Sontijirawong, Thailand’s Minister of Commerce.
In advance of the conference, the Chamber released a paper entitled “Thailand Digital Drivers,” which looks at the growth and development of Thailand’s digital economy, and identifies a number of challenges to its continued growth moving forward.
The following day, the Chamber’s delegation met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut and a number of senior Thai Government officials.
